Fact Act
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) is a set of legislation amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). FACTACT includes additional provisions that are designed to improve the accessibility and dissemination of credit related information. The most distinguishing provision of FACTAct, also sometimes referred to as FACTA, is the ability for consumers to request and obtain a free credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies. The agencies include Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Request from each credit bureau can be made once every 12 months.
FACT Act also addresses areas such as identity prevention, credit reporting accuracy, and credit restoration. FCRA was passed in 1970. FACTACT was passed in 2003. Both are federal laws.
